5000 plus Parisians attended a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future Fort d’Issy-Vanves-Clamart station on June 4 to mark the official start of construction on the first phase of the €25bn Grand Paris orbital express metro network.
Fort d’Issy-Vanves-Clamart will be one of 16 stations on Line 15 South, which will link the southern suburbs of Paris from Pont de Sèvres in the west to Noisy Champs in the east. The €5.7bn project is due to be completed at the end of 2022 and the 33km line is forecast to carry around 300,000 passengers per day.
Société du Grand Paris (SGP), the public company overseeing planning and construction of the express metro network, says it has now recruited around 200 staff, who are coordinating around 1500 professionals from other organizations. By the end of this year SGP says it will have awarded civil engineering contracts worth almost €3bn for Line 15 South.
This ambitious project led by the Société du Grand Paris is part of a more comprehensive project, the New Grand Paris, which includes the development and modernization of the existing network.
The extension of four metro lines prefigures the Grand Paris project by linking Paris with its neighbouring towns and enhancing the mobility between suburbs. Métro 2030 is our ambitious modernization programme comprising an unparalleled number of projects affecting all aspects of our metro lines, to be built through 2030.
Throughout this long period, RATP teams will devote their professional skills and expertise to creating an extensive, modernized, state-of-the-art network on behalf of all our passengers.
